Seattle Jazz Academy

Founded in 2019, Seattle Jazz Academy is a community-centered jazz conservatory dedicated to helping musicians develop their craft, deepen their understanding of the music, and connect with others through a shared love of jazz.

What began as a small piano studio has grown into one of the Pacific Northwest's largest jazz education organizations, serving hundreds of students each week through private lessons, ensembles, classes, performances, workshops, and community events. The academy brings together musicians of all ages and experience levels, creating opportunities for both serious study and meaningful artistic connection.

Today, Seattle Jazz Academy is home to a diverse faculty of professional performers and educators who share a commitment to musical excellence, creativity, and lifelong learning. Through its programs, performances, and growing community, the academy continues to provide a place where musicians can learn, collaborate, and find their own voice.

Current Musical Projects

In addition to my work in arts education, I remain active as a performer, composer, and collaborator. My musical projects range from solo piano performances and jazz ensembles to original compositions, recordings, and special collaborations with artists throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Here are some of the regular groups I play with:

Lee Oskar Band

I perform as organist and keyboardist with Lee Oskar, harmonica master, instrument designer, and founding member of the legendary band War. The group performs Oskar's original music along with selections from the classic War repertoire, blending funk, jazz, blues, and world music influences.

The New Triumph

The New Triumph is a Seattle-based jazz, afro-funk, and groove-oriented ensemble known for its energetic performances and original music. As keyboardist, I contribute both acoustic and electronic textures while collaborating with a diverse group of musicians rooted in jazz, funk, and improvisational traditions.

MiniBos

MiniBos is a contemporary instrumental project led by composer and guitarist Andrew Boscardin. Featuring Evan Woodle on drums, Rebekah Ko on marimba, Andrew Boscardin on guitar, and myself on keyboards and synth bass, the group explores original compositions that blend elements of jazz, progressive music, minimalism, and modern chamber music.

Foundation Work

The Jazz Academy Foundation

The Jazz Academy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to jazz education and supporting the broader musical community. Through scholarships, outreach programs, artist support, and educational initiatives, the foundation works to ensure that high-quality music education remains accessible to students of all backgrounds while strengthening the cultural life of the communities it serves.

Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra

As a member of the board of directors for the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, I help support one of the Pacific Northwest's leading professional jazz organizations. My work has included contributing to educational initiatives such as the Clarence Acox Jazz Scholars Program, which provides mentorship, performance opportunities, and professional development for emerging young jazz musicians.
